Our History
Founded in 2018 by a group of Somali women leaders, KADO has grown from a grassroots initiative to a nationally recognized organization operating across four regions of Somaliland.

Our Core Activities & Sectors
Gender Equality & Women’s Rights
Survivor-centered GBV/PSEA reporting mechanisms, anti-FGM advocacy, VAWG awareness campaigns, and community women's rights champion networks.
- Field Initiative: 12 Women's Rights Champion Networks established in Hargeisa, Burao, and Erigavo.
- Impact: 4,500+ survivors reached with referral support in 2025.
Livelihoods & Climate Resilience
Vocational Skills Training (VST), micro-grants and Village Savings & Loan Associations (VSLAs), climate-smart agriculture, and Green Women Enterprise Hubs.
- Field Initiative: 8 Green Women Enterprise Hubs active in Sanaag and Sool.
- Impact: 1,200+ women received VSLA grants; 70% reported income increase.
Inclusive Education & Disability
The ICARE program providing assistive technologies, teacher training, community awareness, Community-Based Rehabilitation, and WHO GReAT framework alignment.
- Field Initiative: 15 schools equipped with assistive devices and inclusive pedagogy training.
- Impact: 600+ children with disabilities enrolled in mainstream schools.
Health & MHPSS Services
Community-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), counseling, trauma healing, psychological first aid, and reproductive health peer groups.
- Field Initiative: Mobile MHPSS clinics in 6 hard-to-reach communities.
- Impact: 3,200+ individuals received trauma healing and counseling.
Governance & Peacebuilding
Promoting gender-responsive local governance, participatory budgeting, multi-stakeholder coordination, leadership training, and organizational capacity-building.
- Field Initiative: Local councils in Togdheer and Maroodi Jeex trained on gender-sensitive budgeting.
- Impact: 35% increase in women's participation in local planning processes.
WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene)
Gender-sensitive water point construction, Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), distribution of dignity kits, and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) education.
- Field Initiative: 20 new water points constructed; 80 community CLTS campaigns completed.
- Impact: 12,000+ people gained access to clean water and sanitation.
Research, Innovation & Data
Data-driven decision systems, participatory field research, digital mapping, and the KADO Innovation Lab supporting youth-led climate adaptation solutions.
- Field Initiative: Youth-led innovation lab in Hargeisa with 30 active projects.
- Impact: 5 policy briefs published on disability and climate justice.
Humanitarian Response & Early Recovery
Protection-sensitive emergency relief, cash-based safety nets, multi-sectoral disaster risk reduction, and rapid community resilience interventions.
- Family Tracing & Reunification – Safe protocols to reconnect separated households with psychosocial support.
- Field Initiative: Rapid response teams in 4 districts; 2,000+ households reached with emergency cash in 2025.
Advocacy & Social Mobilization
High-impact public awareness campaigns championing gender justice, disability rights, and climate action alongside direct engagement with traditional elders and policymakers.
- Field Initiative: 50 community dialogues held with 1,200+ participants.
- Impact: 3 local ordinances passed for disability inclusion and FGM prevention.
